Individual Competition
You must be registered for the series to be included in the individual and team competitions.
For 2011 the MASS will have two individual series competitions consisting of the Cross Country Series and the Endurance Series. Points will be awarded based on finishing position according to the points schedules. Age-graded classes are divided by your racing age. Your racing age for the 2011 season is defined as your age on December 31, 2011.
The Cross Country Series will consist of 12 XC races. The series XC finals at Bear Creek will be a double-points race (the equivalent of 2 XC’s). So there will be the equivalent of 13 XC race points available. Your best 8 races* will be counted towards the XC series championships.
*To reinforce this point, your season points total will be your best 8 XC scores. Since Bear Creek is equivalent to two XC scores (and if it were one of your top results) you would score your best 6 other XCs plus Bear Creek.
The Endurance Series will consist of 9 endurance & marathon races. Your best 6 races will be counted towards the Endurance series championships. New for this year the Endurance Series finals and awards ceremony will take place at the Coal Cracker Classic.
Series Awards - Series Class winners will be awarded a series champions jersey. In most classes 2nd and 3rd in each class will receive an award or trophy except in classes with less than 10 series registered racers. In those classes only a series champions jersey will be awarded
Cancellations & Tie-breakers -
If a race has to be cancelled the number of races scored will be reduced by 1 race for each cancelled race. Hopefully we will not have to worry about that.
In the case of any ties at the end of a series, we will first look at who has the most 1st places, 2nd places, etc. If that is also a tie we will then look to see who did better in head-to-head competition. If that too is a tie Bear Creek will be the tie breaker.
Team Competition -
This year Cross Country teams will again be competing for the Team Cup trophies. The XC team cup challenge is a great way to stimulate more interest and incentive to ride, train and work together for a common goal. For 2011 we will offer 9 team cup Cross Country trophies by offering 3 divisions as follows.
- Large Team - Teams over 10 riders
- Small Team - Teams 10 Riders and Under.
- Grassroots Team – Beginner and Sport riders only, no experts.
The team competition is open to any group (bike shop affiliation, club, jersey, etc) that would like to participate in the team competition. A team can only enter in one of the team categories. Teams may be made up of any combination of racers from any of the classes and categories. For MASS team competitions, a racer can only be affiliated with one team.
Team Managers must submit a team roster to the series director prior to the first race. To score team points a racer must be registered for the series on BikeReg and on a team roster prior to the race in which the racer will be eligible for team points. Final team rosters will be due June 1st. No roster changes will be accepted after that date. There will be no retroactive scoring.
The team competition will be scored as follows:
Each race will have a team competition within the event. The results of this competition will result in team points towards the Team Cup Series. The team’s finishing position of each race will carry a point value as outlined below. At the end of the series, the teams with the most points will be awarded the Cannondale Team Cup Trophies. The team results of the race will be made available AFTER each race, and will not be known at the event.
For Large Teams having more than 10 riders:
1. The 10 highest scoring riders will be counted first.
2. After the top ten highest scoring riders for a team are counted, any rider that had a top three finish that was not counted in the top 10 will also be scored toward team points.
For Small Teams 10 riders or less:
ALL riders on the team will be counted towards team points.
For Grassroots Teams (Any amount of riders, beginner and sport riders only)
1. The 10 highest scoring riders will be counted for any one team.
2. For teams with more than 10 riders after the top ten highest scoring riders for a team are counted, any rider that had a top three finish that was not counted in the top 10 will also be scored toward team points.
